Jaundice Jaundice Go Away

At 6 days old, we brought Keaen to the PD for his 1st review. His jaundice level was measured at 187 (any measurement above 250 would require admission to the hospital for phototherapy) and the PD instructed us to sunbathe him every morning and bring him back for review 5 days later.  Sad to say, it was cloudy for the following few days and Keaen did not get much sun ray.

When Keaen went for review at 11 days old, his jaundice level rose to 206 and the PD instructed us to continue sunbathing him in the morning and alternate his feed between breastmilk and formula milk for a week.  I'm ultra disturbed by this idea as Keaen was on total breastfeed and has established his latching quite well.  As such, I did not follow the PD's instruction and continued to latch him.  However, I did away with sesame oil and ginger in my confinement diet which may be the cause of his jaundice.

Based on past experience with Leaenn who was admitted back to the hospital as her level was more than 250 (the 2 days stay cost approximately $1,000 and it was a tiring affair as Daddy and Mummy would need to travel to and fro the hospital to deliver expressed breastmilk for feeding), kiasu Daddy and Mummy decided to sunbathe Keaen every morning and evening.

Thanks to PoPo and GongGong who made the effort to sunbathe Keaen every morning and evening, be it at the playground or at home .......

Keaen was still yellow during his review at 19 days old.  Hence, the PD ordered both blood and urine test to test his liver function and if there is any urine infection.  Thank God, everything was fine and the final diagnosis was breastfeed jaundice.
